'Put old prison building to use'

With this the old prison building has been neglected completely.

Weeds have grown in the prison premises and has become breeding grounds for rats and bandicoot. The building is crying for attention.

The department of Prison has not yet handed over the old prison building to the district administration. After shifting the prison, nobody has paid attention towards its maintenance.

In the backdrop of lack of space for government offices in Madikeri, this building can be used for the functioning of any of the government offices. In fact, many government offices are functioning in rented buildings in Madikeri. Those who come from outside the district find it difficult to locate government offices, as they are situated in one corner of the city. Hence, the district administration can hand over this neglected building to some government department to function.

The department of Archaeology has already issued several notices to District administration to shift from the Fort premises as Fort premises houses office of the district administration and Zilla Panchayat.

The district complex can be shifted to Central Workshop only after completing the work of constructing the complex. In this background, it is better, if the old prison building is handed over to some department. If it is not maintained, then it may lose its significance. If the building is handed over to any department, then it would definitely benefit the public.

The prison was shifted to the new venue following the increase in the number of prisoners.
