MLA C T Ravi getting into damage control mode, has lashed out at the opposition for levelling allegations against the BJP government and backed Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Addressing a press conference, here on Wednesday, he said that one cannot be treated as a culprit based on an allegation.

“Any allegation should be verified properly. The BJP has already started verifying the allegations of the oppositions. The party will take action against the concerned only if the charges are proved,” he said

He said that the Cabinet has already decided to hold a judicial probe into the land scams. “If the opposition presses for probe by the Lokayukta, then the Cabinet may cancel the judicial inquiry,” Ravi added.

He pleaded all opposition leaders to co-operate with the inquiry by submitting documents regarding the land scams and said, “the government will take stern action based on the inquiry report.” “Nepotism is an unlawful act and the Chief Minister has already returned the denotified land. The Chief Minister has shown the right path to others by doing so,” Ravi said.  Talking about JD(S) District Working President S L Bhojegowda allegations regarding the encroachment of Doddakere tank in Chikkamagaravalli, Ravi said, “some are engaged in blackmailing others only for publicity.”

Without mentioning Bhojegowda’s name, Ravi said that the allegations of encroachment of tank is baseless. “Earlier, the tank belonged to the PWD. In 1970, an application was submitted by my father and mother seeking two acres and the Taluk Office approved it. However, the sanction of land was stayed in 1994 due to the intervention of some people,” he clarified.

“They have been levelling the same allegation for the last 15 years. Let them understand a fact that they cannot raise to higher levels by playing such heinous politics,” he lambasted adding that it was a part of conspiracy to tarnish his political image.

“Allegation against me is that I earn disproportionate assets. I disclose my asset in the declaration to the Lokayukta every year. If anyone can produce documents of disproportionate assets in my name, half of such property will be gifted to the same person,” Ravi declared.

“The JD(S) chief has spoken against me at personal level. The worthiness of such leaders will be evaluated by the people. I have already won the elections twice and people in any part of the State recognise me and speak to me with great regard,” he added.

Talking about the criticisms made by the JD(S) against the Akki Santhe (rice fair), Ravi said, “there is nothing wrong in gaining political mileage since it is a government scheme.”
