Over 60 palanquins hold crowd in awe

A colourful procession with the attractive palanquins was taken out in the thoroughfares of the town. 

Addressing the gathering at the Netaji stadium, legislator Amaresh said the values which we derive from the compositions of Kanakadasa are relevant even to the present society.

Life and works

Teacher at the Government High School Basappa elaborated on the life and works of Kanakadasa whose contribution to the Bhakti tradition in 16th century is significant.

He said recital of Kanakadasa’s composition and musings on his philosophy, his vision of egalitarian society would provide solutions to several crises in day to day life of modern society.

Tahsidlar P Jayamadhav inaugurated the event in which TMC president Mohammed Bhashir, Taluk Kuruba Sangha Subramani, Kanakadasa Jayanthi Acharana Samiti N Venkateshagowda, educationist G Nagaraj, R S Krishnaiah Shetty, DySP Govindappa, Town Muncipality chief officer Hosakoti Nagaraj participated.

Speaking at a similar event at Nehru Kannda Higher Primary School in Ganeshapalya, guests Muniramaiah and Amaranath said Kanakadasa’s compositions explain ‘Vedanta’ in a manner that common can easily comprehend.

Schoolchildren recited patriotic songs and presented dance and many other cultural programmes.
