Aiming at 2-mn enterprise solution users by next year: Google

Last Updated 25 November 2010, 14:56 IST

To achieve this goal, the company will target small and medium enterprises in the country that have not yet migrated to cloud-based computing technologies. Currently, Google has about one million users across 100,000 enterprises in India.

"We are seeing a huge growth in our enterprise solutions business globally and especially in India. While we have one million users now, we are confident of doubling the number by next year," Google Vice-President (International Sales and Operations - Enterprise) Amit Singh told reporters here.

Though large enterprises are keen on the solutions, which are based on cloud technology, there is increased scope for doing business with SMEs, he added.

Cloud technology is Internet-based computing where shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on a pay-per use model.

Google offers mail, collaboration, video and other services as part of its enterprise solutions. Its customers in India include SAIL, Sterlite, IIM Calcutta, FMS and ISB.

Asked about the revenue from its enterprises solutions in India, Singh declined to comment. Globally, Google has 30 million users of its enterprise solutions.

"The business is driven by the fact that companies are looking at simplifying their IT networks. Also, with increased mobility, customers are demanding solutions that help them work on documents from any part of the world, as well as cost efficiency," he said.

In price-sensitive markets like India, small and medium businesses are showing interest in adopting the cloud model, primarily due to the cost advantages at various points of its implementation.

Google has a team of 300 engineers working on cloud technologies at its centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad, which is the largest cloud-focused team for the company outside the US.
