The government has cleared the proposal to appoint the special public prosecutor, state Home Minister R Ashok told reporters here. Madani is currently in judicial custody in the city.

Along with the PDP leader, 31 people were named in the chargesheet framed in the case related to the 2008 blasts which left a woman dead and 20 others injured.
Of the 32 accused in the case, 14 have been arrested.

Karnataka Police arrested Madani on August 17 from Kollam in Kerala. The 300-member strong Commando Force created for deployment to tackle terror, naxal and underworld activities would commence functioning within a fortnight, Ashok said.

While an 100-member commando team would be stationed in Bangalore, the remaining would be deployed in Hubli, Mangalore and Belgaum, he said. The force had undergone training under Army personnel, he said.

There have been reports that some of the elements engaged in underworld activities in Mumbai were trying to make Bangalore as the base for operations and police have been keeping a vigil on such gangs, he said.
