Give temporary door numbers: Palemar

Last Updated 27 November 2010, 16:09 IST

Chairing the meet, District-in-Charge Minister J Krishna Palemar said that temporary door numbers can be issued to those who reside in government land only if the site was not earmarked for any development purpose.

“Those families can use the door numbers to obtain ration cards, but a final decision in this regard will be taken by the Cabinet. However, they can not use the door number to claim rights over the land,” he added.

Door numbers should be given to the houses of all poor families, who have applied for the same before November 27, Palemar said and directed the officials to take resolution in this regard when MLAs U T Khader and Abhayachandra Jain raised issue.

Both MLAs had pointed out that poor families, who built houses on government land are being deprived of all government benefits since they do not have the ration cards. Hence, MLAs urged, “the Gram Panchayats should give temporary door numbers and allow them to apply for ration cards.”

‘Violation of rules’

Meanwhile, officials in the Revenue Department said that issuing door numbers to houses constructed in government land will be a violation of rules.

An official told mediapersons later that they will be held responsible if door numbers were given to houses in the encroached land.

“We have been asked to send periodically the details regarding encroachments to Subramanyam Committee, which was appointed by the government,” official said.

However, Palemar said that the KDP meet has the powers to take resolution and direct the gram panchayats.
