Raising the issue N Harish from Nagapura said the ongoing Rs 27-crore project aiming to link Yeswanthpur to Yelahanka, was taken up for the benefit of a single private builder who proposed to construct 400 houses on the other side of the GKVK campus.

He alleged then commissioner, who later became the Agriculture Secretary for a brief period, colluded with the private builders in constructing the six-km stretch which entails felling of over 1,000 trees.

The Palike has laid four kilometre of the stretch. Harish quipped: “The Palike, which can’t raise even Rs five crore for the ward funds, is spending Rs 27 crore for a road that was not required and hardly used.”

Besides, Harish pointed out that the road has been constructed violating the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2015. The proposal was not brought before the Bangalore Development Authority which is the competent authority to approve construction of roads keeping in conformity with the CDP 2015.

Deputy Mayor N Dayanand who was standing in for Mayor S K Nataraj said the matter will now be referred to the Standing Committee on Major Works for further inquiry.
