Jaggery park to be functional soon

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Krishi Mela at the VC farm near here, he said the work on Jaggery Park was on the final stages. The equipment and machines were being installed as last stage of work, he said.

The jaggery made in the park would be free of chemicals. There was a good demand for jaggery in the market and the Park will come out with powder jaggery besides conventional block jaggery. The University has entered into an agreement with the farmers to grow sugar cane in a total area of 100 acres, he said.

Earlier, Minister for Home, Transport and Incharge of District, R Ashoka inaugurated the Krishi Mela and interacted with the farmers attending the mela. The mela provides demonstration on various breeds of paddy, sugar cane, ragi, maize and new irrigation methods, modern equipment and use of fertilisers.

On the occasion, Agricultural Research Centre released two new breed of paddy and maize called Raksha - KMP 105 and Hema NAH - 1137 respectively.

The mela is being jointly organised by Agricultural University, Bangalore, Zonal Agricultural Research Centre, Agricultural college and various other Government departments.
