“Our special team has arrested two prime suspects Deepak Haldar, 30, and his wife Suchitra Haldar, 26, from a rented house near Chetri Sangh Club at Kalikapur in West Bengal and picked up two of their associates, Mohammad Sarbal, 33, and Bidan Shikari, 26, from Hale Guddahalli and Koramangala in Bangalore, respectively, Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari told a press conference on Tuesday.

“We did get basic information about the suspects soon after the murder, but could not arrest them as they were hiding in the Sundarbans area of West Bengal,” he added.|

The success comes after 15 futile raids in different parts of the country and 77 days of relentless effort in West Bengal.

Soon after the murder, Deepak and Suchitra fled to West Bengal. The police reconstituted the investigation team after they failed to get any information about them despite 15 visits.

The team searched for the suspects for three months, disguised as auto drivers. They managed to take a few people into confidence and got details about Suchitra’s brother, a rickshaw driver who was staying at Jadhavpur.

They went to Jadhavpur and collected details about Suchitra’s daughter Riya and also managed to get her photograph. They discovered that she was studying at RAP School and she had been to her native place for Deepavali and Durga pooja.

The police traced Riya’s tutor, took him into confidence, showed him the pictures of the couple and got to know that the couple were staying at Kalikapur located in the interior region which had no access to vehicles.
The police went in the guise of auto drivers and arrested the couple. They also arrested the other two suspects, based on the input given by the couple.

All the four are from Shyamnagar, Krishnachandpura and 24 Paraganas, and are related to each other. The police recovered two gold bangles, a gold chain, silver ornaments and silk sarees, all worth Rs 1.3 lakh.
