A placard to drive home this point was held high by a student during the ‘Road Safety - Our Priority’ programme at St Joseph's Boys School on Thursday.

Though the chief guest arrived late by a little more than an hour, the event went on smoothly later on, unlike the traffic in the City.

A brand new car damaged in an accident with alcohol bottles scattered all around welcomed participants to the venue.

Clippings of reports in Deccan Herald on the November 18 accident when Aditya, a young engineer who was travelling on top of a car, went missing after it fell into the Yemmanur Lake, were also displayed.

Not a single person who walked in missed the settings; a few others were glued to the clippings, while many, including Bangalore City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari and Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic and Security) Praveen Sood stopped in front of the “demolished” car and recollected the episode.

Hundreds of enthusiastic schoolchildren took part in the road safety programme which was jointly organised by the Bangalore City Traffic Police and the Children's Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA).

After a formal inauguration and oath-taking, the children took out a march carrying placards and shouting slogans. The march started off from the school on Vittal Mallya Road and went around Kanteerava Stadium.

Children had also put up an exhibition on traffic awareness. Later, a workshop, in association with the Traffic Training Institute and traffic wardens, was held.
