Uniform sand mining policy opposed

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, JAC President Mayur Ullal said all trucks, which carry sand, will remain off the road and quarrying will also be stopped as a mark of protest. District-in-Charge Minister J Krishna Palemar has already sent suggestions seeking relaxation in the policy for coastal districts.

Palemar had explained in his suggestions about the impacts of uniform sand mining policies in his letter, he said adding that amendments should be made and rules should be relaxed for coastal district.

GPS

Ullal said that a total of 600 truck owners have registered their names in the JAC. Global Positioning System (GPS) has already been installed in about 500 trucks. As per the directions of the District Task Force Committee, training has been given to nearly 70 per cent of the officials on the functioning of GPS.

Training will be given to remaining officials soon, he said and opposed the district administration’s decision to take over the control of the website of the GPS.
