In 2009 and 2010, Paris was ranked among the three most important and influential cities in the world. Exploring the city is like living an enchanting fairy tale. You can treat yourself to some art at a local museum, indulge in some intellectual conversation at a road-side cafe or just shop at local boutiques — the place has something for everyone.

Which is why renowned Indian fashion designer Anuradha Vakil loves the city. She  says, “For me, it has to be Paris, undoubtedly. All the things I enjoy in life — arts, design, architecture and music — Paris has it in abundance. Every trip to that place rejuvenates me somehow!”

Paris’ museums and monuments are among its highest-esteemed attractions; tourism has motivated both the city and national governments to create new ones. Its most prized museum, the Louvre, welcomes over eight million visitors a year, being one of the world’s most-visited art museums. Other attractions in Paris include the Chateau de Versailles, which is France’s most exquisite chateau located on the outskirts of the city. Then there is Opera Garnier —  a masterpiece of theatre architecture of the 19th century built by Charles Garnier and inaugurated in 1875.  It houses the Paris Opera founded by Louis XIV. The Père-Lachaise Cemetery is where you can see the graves of Jim Morrison and other renowned celebrities. Sacré Coeur is a church crests the highest point in Paris.

The place is a shopper’s paradise too. Walk around and you see every lane with windows displaying pretty clothes in places like the Champs-Elysees or the Galeries Lafayette. Paris is also home to lots of flea markets. These places are treasure troves  filled with clothes, shoes, household items, and random trinkets which can be bought and are Parisian enough to be showed off back home!

As for the food, who hasn’t been bowled over by French cuisine which ranges from fresh breads to delicious cheese to creamy chocolates to pastries and much more.

Those who wish to taste the best wine and food in the world must also visit Paris. It is also the perfect place where food lovers can enjoy all forms of Indian, Middle Eastern, Asian and other international cuisine.
