The audition for the eighth season of Roadies, Shortcut to Hell, held recently, saw young people eagerly waiting for their turn to audition.

They had come in as early as five in the morning and didn’t look a wee bit restless
as they waited patiently for their turn.

Although the City was slated for the last round of audition, there was no dearth of participation.

“I have been watching the show for the last seven years and I love everything about it. Be it the drama, the kind of places one gets to see and the fame one gets thereafter. I had come last year too but I didn’t get selected. So this year, I want to try my luck again,” said Sanjay, a student.

The long wait for the audition seemed tiresome but many say that the wait was worth the effort because there was so much going on inside St John’s Auditorium.
If the girls were trying to give their versions of Munni Badnam on one side, there were boys competing for the maximum push-ups on the other.

The auditorium was filled with boys screaming for Raghu and Rajiv, the two judges who are known for their unique style of judging. This year will see VJ Rannvijay, season one winner, and host of the show, in the judging panel as well.

“He was the best of all the seasons and I hope I get shortlisted, only to see Rannvijay,” said Sanjana, one of the participants.

After the initial screening, the participants were divided and were sent in for group discussions for which the topics ranged from live-in relationships, Commonwealth Games to the impact of reality shows on society.

With 2,100 participants, the competition was tough but there were those who were more than willing to provide tips.

“I have been waiting for almost four hours for my turn but now that it’s over and done with, I feel it was all worth it. The point is to be yourself and at the same time make sure you have your say in the group discussion,” said Sahil, one of the participants.

The boys sure did outnumber the girls but that didn’t bog down girl power.
Said Archana, “It does not matter if there are only some girls taking part, it only brightens up my chances. I love this show and the journey is what excites me the most. Of course, the many tasks on the way only make it interesting.” There will be only six boys and six girls shortlisted for the finals.
