Prez to take part in Manipal Varsity convocation today

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the President will arrive at Bajpe Airport at 3.50 pm on Wednesday and proceed to Manipal in helicopter at 4 pm.

On Thursday, she will arrive at Bajpe Airport at 11.30 am and proceed to Nehru Maidan here to take part in World Konkani Cultural convention. She will return to New Delhi from Bajpe airport at 6 pm.

Traffic rules

Singh said that with security point of view and to ensure smooth movement of vehicles, traffic diversions will be made from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm on Thursday.

Parking of vehicles on either sides of the road from Bajpe airport-Kavoor-Bondel-Maryhill-KPT-Nanthoor-Shivbaugh-St Agnes-Balmatta-Dr Ambedkar Circle-Hampankatta-Clock Tower-Nehru Maidan has been banned from 8 am to 6.30 pm.

In the city, parking on either sides of the road from KPT to Circuit House, from Nanthoor-Shivbaugh-St Agnes-Horticulture office to Balmatta, Balmatta circle-Dr Ambedkar circle-Hampankatta- A B Shetty circle-Hamilton Circle to Badriya junction, Bautagudde (Alukas showroom) to Ambedkar circle has been prohibited.

Arrangements have been made for the parking of vehicles of those attending the programmes at Cricket ground, Nehru Maidan.

In Manipal:

Speaking to the media persons in Uduipi on Tuesday, DC Hemalatha said the President will arrive at Manipal at 4.30 pm on Wednesday. She will be received at Manipal helipad by Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya, IGP (Western Range) Alok Mohan, Manipal University Chancellor Dr Ramdas Pai and by host of other dignitaries. Her Excellency will be accompanied by Governor H R Bhardwaj on the occasion. Her stay has been arranged in Hotel Fortune Inn Valley View. She will attend the convocation ceremony at KMC Greens at 7 pm, she added.

President's breakfast has been arranged at River House at 9 am on Thursday morning. Her campus tour will comprise of her visit to anatomy museum. She will attend TAPMI new campus inaugural ceremony at 10.45 am on Thursday. She will depart from Manipal at around 10.45 am to Mangalore, she said.

Tight security

SP Pravin Pawar informed that tight security arrangements are being made for President’s two-day visit to Manipal. As many as 2 ASPs, 8 Deputy SPs, 22 Inspectors, 50 PSIs, 86 ASIs, 515 HC and PCs have been deployed for the purpose. Besides, 3 KSRP platoons, 2 Quick Response Team, 4 ANF teams, 2 DAR vehicles, 3 Anti Sabotage Check teams are arranged.  One bomb squad team from Bangalore besides one bomb squad team from military will be in charge of Presidents security, he added.
