'Power tariff hike was unavoidable'

“The middle class, which is not covered by any form of subsidy for power consumption, will have to bear the burnt of the tariff revision. I hope they will cooperate with the Government in the interest of the State,” he told mediapersons in Hosanagar on Wednesday.

The KERC on Tuesday approved the the proposal from the State-owned electricity companies t revise the tariff. He promised to provide 20 hours of power for rural areas.

Replying to a query, he informed that the revision of power tariff would not have any impact on the local body elections.

He exuded confidence in the party’s victory in the local bodies. “JD(S) has indulged in malicious campaigning against the State Government in the name of land scams. BJP will go to the polls in a positive frame of mind and votes will be sought on the basis of development,” he said.

Later in the day, speaking after launching BJP’s campaign for the local body elections, Yeddyurappa said the scams involving the leaders of Congress and JD(S) would be exposed in the State Legislature session to be held for a month after the conclusion of the local body polls.
