Dressing is mostly idiosyncratic. It relies more on individual style and sense of fashion, however, widely prevalent it is. Some people like to keep it loud, while some others settle down for more subtle fashion.

Yet, not many will resent if one says whatever the choice of dressing maybe, it’s always best to keep it simple yet attractive. Now that’s an art in itself. How can one be simple yet look attractive?

Smartness is innate and the clothes one wears must be a reflection of the same, thinks fashion designer C K Satkrit Narayan. He spoke to Metrolife about how one can carry off a smart casual in a simple yet attractive way. He defined what cool dressing means to him.

Talking about smart dressing for men, to begin with, Satkrit says, “Cool to me would mean lenin or plain well-fitted Polos with a nice contrasting denim trouser, shorts well accessorised with a belt.” He thinks women would look great wearing a smart day dress with a scarf to go with. “Accessories form a great part of the look with nice bracelets and maybe a thin anklet to go with it,” he adds.

About pairing a tee with the right pair of jeans or matching the accessories with the outfit Satkrit observes that every individual has his or her own area of attractiveness.

“Dressing up to highlight one’s strong points would be the first answer. If someone has a really slim waistline it’s best to wear short tops or real fitted uppers that enhance and compliment the figure,” he says.

As for accessories, Satkrit says that they play a decisive role in complimenting any garment.

“Thin bracelets or wrist chains can enhance the shape and slenderness of the rest of the arm, and inversely a low waist belt make the hips look smaller than it seems,” he points out.  And no look is complete without the right streak of make-up. Satkrit thinks the kind of make-up you use depends on the colour, skin texture and shade of each person.

“Intensity to colour and what to wear totally depends on each person, based on her skin texture, shade and skin quality. It’s better to stay understated than go overboard with make-up,” he signs off.
