Mishra, a former IAS officer of 1973 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre, is likely to take charge as Chief Information Commissioner on December 20, official sources said.
Tiwari's term as CIC expires on December 19.

The decision to appoint 61-year old Mishra who was former Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training, was taken at a meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj and Law Minister Veerappa Moily.

"There is no official communication. I have come to know about the development through media," Mishra said. He refused to comment any further on his future responsibility saying he can only make a statement after a notification is issued in this regard.

Tiwari was appointed as Chief Information Commissioner on September 29 after Wajahat Habibullah's five-year term as head of the transparency panel ended.
