The students seem to be in a fix. The final year postgraduate exams of Bangalore University have been postponed thrice from the date they were scheduled to begin, thanks to the Zilla Panchayat elections scheduled from December 26 to 30.

The exams were supposed to commence from December 13 but they were put off for a week. They were again postponed and have been rescheduled now to begin on December 30. The delay in issuing of admission tickets has also added to the problem.

The students will have to face the ordeal of writing exams during new year, which will definitely dampen their spirit.

An official from the Bangalore University said, “Our staff was needed for election duty in rural areas, so we had to postpone the exams.”

The repeated postponement have made the students an exasperated lot. Raghavendra, a final year M Com student says, “We thought the exams would begin on schedule and the teachers had to rush through the portions. We have not had any classes after that to clarify our doubts.”

Madhu N, a mass communication student says, “Given the state of affairs in this university where there is no sanctity of deadline, I won’t be surprised if it gets postponed again. It only dampens our enthusiasm to study and it will reflect in our performance. It will also lead to delay in announcement of results, affect our placements and we won’t complete our degree on time. It has happened with our seniors as well. Postponing once is fine but this is the third time we are getting a revised time-table, it gets difficult for us to study this way.”

However, a few students are happy about the exams being delayed. Radhika, a final year literature student says, “I’m happy because it has given me ample time to revise what I have studied. The only sad part is that we won’t be able to celebrate the new year since we would be writing exams.”

Says Kripashree, an M Com student, “I was initially disappointed that the exams had been postponed as I had made plans for my vacation. But then I thought I could use the time with my family and study leisurely for the exams.”
