If you want to spot the latest trends among the young all you need to do is to step into any college campus in the City.

The young men and women don’t miss a chance to sport the latest in fashion be it accessories, footwear or even clothes.  A few students even mix and match and invent their own stuff and play around, especially with the accessories. Mount Carmel University women are used to inventing their own style.

And each time you walk into the college campus, you sight a new trend. Metrolife spotted women carrying large bags in Mount Carmel University. These bags serve as a perfect dump yard in which these women throw in all the essentials they carry to college which includes books, make up kits, food... and perhaps an umbrella.

Each of the girls own five or six bags in different colours. They pick colours that blend with their outfits. None of the bags are branded and aren’t expensive.

They are usually picked up from the bylanes in Commercial Street or the shops that stock good but moderately priced bags.

But there seems to be an obsession for black bags. And the more the pockets and pouches, the better they are.

Dritika, a final year student, says she has five or six large bags which she changes every two days in keeping with the outfit she’s wearing.

“Large bags provide ample space and give you room to dump whatever you want to. The ledgers cannot be carried in smaller bags. They are fashionable too,” she says.

Aishwarya, another final year student thinks that large bags are more in vogue in colleges.

“You see so many people carrying similar bags and you end up wanting to own a similar bag. The temptation is inevitable,” she says.

Rithika feels it’s easy to maintain the black bags. “The more colourful ones get discoloured pretty soon and it’s tough to wash these bags. And it’s not like school bags which you can wash and use. And I always make sure I match my footwear and accessories with the bag,” she says.

Radhika pitches in, “It’s all about pairing it right. You can pair just about anything and call it fashion. College is the best time to experiment.”
