Don't deviate from varsity guidelines, says VC

Speaking at the Academic Council meeting here on Wednesday, he said the local inspection committee visits the colleges before deciding on the intake of students for a particular course. Once the Syndicate and Academic Council approves the intake, no one can change the intake of students for post graduation courses. In case of necessity, for undergraduate courses, the intake can be increased by 10 per cent with the permission of the Syndicate.

“College principals will be held responsible for any problem being faced by the students for not following the guidelines with regard to the admission,” he warned.

Revision of credit scheme

The VC said that the University has decided to revise the credit-based semester scheme for its undergraduate courses. If the Government approves it, the revised scheme will come into force from the next academic year.

The university had constituted a committee of teachers to revise the scheme and amend the regulations governing it. The university intended to complete the revision process within two months. After amending the regulations of the scheme, its draft will be tabled before the Syndicate and Academic Council approval. It will then be sent to the Government for approval.

Grants

He said that UGC has sanctioned additional Rs one crore for the infrastructure developments in the university. The University is also planning to set up 400 metres track in its campus. Land has already been identified.  The Academic Council okayed the proposal of considering JOC in commercial garment designing and making courses equivalent to PUC for admission to BCA. A statute governing upgradation of posts of Pump Operators, Glass Blower, Pump Mechanic/Mechanic, Technical Assistant/Operator, Lab Assistant, Workshop Mechanic, Computer Operator was okayed in the Council meet.

It also approved the renaming of BR (HRD) course title to Bachelor of Human Resource Development (BHRD).

Estate Officer

A draft statute governing the institution and appointment of Estate Officer in Manglore University was okayed in the Council meeting.

As per the draft, a person from the cadre of Associate Professor/equivalent having 5 years experience will be the Estate Officer of the University.

The Estate Officer will be in-charge of maintaining property register along with preventing encroachment of university property and take action to remove the encroached land.

He shall also supervise the regular supply of water and electricity to various buildings of the university along with other responsibilities.

Statutory panel of council formed

A statutory committee of Academic Council has been constituted in the University with 4 deans as its members, Vice-Chancellor as Chairman and Registrar as Secretary. In case of emergency, the Committee will take a decision on behalf of the Academic Council and later the decision can be ratified in the Academic Council meeting, he added.  

Varsity to issue provisional pass certificates

Mangalore University  Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy said that autonomous colleges were issuing provisional pass certificate to their students. In many cases, the certificate issued by the colleges were not considered, thus putting the students to hardship. Hence, the Syndicate of the University has decided that the University will issue provisional pass certificate to the students of Autonomous College till they get their degree certificate.
