'Everything happened in no time'

In all, Bharathi, Veena, Jayamma, Ramamani and Gagana were rushed to K R Hospital on Tuesday evening when they were rescued from the Undabatti lake on Nanjangud road.

Among them, Veena, Jayamma, Ramamani and Gagana wanted to move to their native.

While, Bharathi who suffered exhaustion and breathing discomfort due to drowning is still kept under medical care. “Bharathi has shown improvement and may be discharged in a day or two,” a doctor on duty said.

Bharathi recalled the horror and said everything happened in no time. Bride’s cousin, Bharati hails from Katteri village. Nine of her relatives in the van from Katteri village.

Bharathi, who is in shock said she lost her mother-in-law Sarojamma. Her husband Rajendra stayed back in village and did not attend the post marriage feast held in Nanjangud.

However, she is not sure whether the driver was drunk, but adds it is likely that was rather drunk. 

Speaking to Deccan Herald, South police inspector Gopalakrishna said the driver Chethan belonged to Palahalli and was still on the run. “Our police team visited Palahalli in search of the driver, but found that all his family members were absconding. Chethan worked as a driver for the owner of the van, who resided in the same village,” he added.
