Madhuri, Navneet triumph

Navneet posted a 8-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-8 win in a gruelling final against Anirban Tarafdar of Canara Bank. In the women’s final, Madhuri was too strong for Maithreyee Bailoor of BTTA, cruising to a 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 victory.

The first game of the men’s final was keenly contested. Navneet opened a 4-1 lead but Anirban fought his way back with some great winners. The scoreline was 6-6 at one stage before Anirban broke Navneet’s play and rhythm to win the first game 11-8.

Anirban was caught off guard as a rejuvenated Navneet stormed through the second game. Anirban came back with a vengeance in the third as he held off Navneet on many an occasion to forge ahead again. Game four was game two reloaded from Navneet as he looked unstoppable wrapping up the game.

In a see-saw fifth game, Anirban led for a brief while before Navneet clawed his way back and kept a cool head to finish off the game at 11-9 and get himself into a great position to win the match.

Anirban tried his best to get back in the sixth game but Navneet kept the pressure on his rival to lift the title.

The youth girls’ final saw Arpitha BS of SBMJC defeating college-mate Aishwarya R Bidri 11-9, 11-2, 11-7, 11-7.

Women’s singles, final: Madhuri R (MSRMC) bt Maithreyee Bailoor (BTTA) 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9.

Youth: girls’, final: Arpitha BS (SBMJC) bt Aishwarya R Bidri (SBMJC) 11-9, 11-2, 11-7, 11-7.
