He was addressing a workshop on creativity and innovation for business excellence to help participants to be effective as well as head other players in the market.

Several consultants, HR professionals as well as leadership and soft skills trainers took part in the workshop organised by the Indian Society for Training and Development, with Deccan Herald as the media partner.

Tobe challenged the participants to step out of their comfort zones in positioning their services and products more creatively.

“To be competitive in today’s market, one must be creative and innovative. Actually, he/she must stay ahead of the market. Most people feel they are not creative. However, in reality, everyone tends to be creative each time they question the ‘norm’. Each time they should continually challenge themselves to look at a situation from a different perspective,”said Tobe.

“The first step towards creativity is to shatter the stereotype of experience. Several successful companies have been able to reach top positions by providing unique customer experience,” he noted.

“Stop looking in our rear view mirrors to gauge things done in the past. Instead, look through your windshield to see what’s coming ahead in your specific industry,” he explained.

Other prominent speakers included Manish Sabarwal, MD Team Lease, Chitra S, principal consultant, Leadership Institute, Infosys and Kavita Somasekhar, General Manager HR of Meritrack, S J Amalan, Chairman of Bangalore Chapter of ISTD and Ganesh Natrajan, Vice President of HR BEML.
