176 to contest ZP polls in B'lore urban

Wednesday was the last day for filing the nominations.

There are 34 seats in Bangalore Urban ZP. The district has four taluk panchayats –– Bangalore north (22 seats), Bangalore south (12 seats), Anekal (27) and Bangalore east (11 seats). The elections are scheduled for December 26. For the 34 seats, 54 candidates have filed nominations from the ruling BJP, 40 each from the Congress and the JD(S), four from BSP, two CPM and 36 independent candidates have filed the nomination papers. December 23 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

A majority of the candidates filed the papers on the last date on Wednesday and political parties had a tough time selecting the candidates as there were too many aspirants.
