Cong fields none on Muniyappa's home turf

Last Updated 18 December 2010, 18:17 IST

Lack of enthusiasm to field a candidate on the home turf of Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa has invited criticism from within and outside the party. His critics and rivals have accused Muniyappa of having entered into a tacit pact with Varthur Prakash, who is now identified with BJP. In the entire district, the Congress has not fielded candidate only in Vakkaleri which is reserved for women of general category.

Rajeshwari and her mother Yashodamma had filed the nomination papers as independent candidates. However, Yashodamma withdrew the papers on Saturday, leaving the field for a direct fight between the BJP and the JD(S) in the constituency.
