BBMP invites tenders for ward projects

Last Updated 19 December 2010, 18:56 IST

Last week, the Palike had requested the State Election Commission (SEC) to relax the model code of conduct to facilitate developmental work in the City. The SEC had obliged.

However, the question now is whether the ‘no objection’ issued by the SEC would amount to surrogate campaigning for the ruling party in the ensuing ZP and TP elections.
With barely a week for the polls, the Palike has published advertisements inviting tenders in all major publications in the City.

Tracking progress

The Palike will now implement an automatic work order generating system, which will be posted on its website. The system will help the BBMP prevent duplication of projects and keep a tab on the progress of work at the ward level.

Road widening

The Palike will acquire private properties under the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) to widen road at Dodda Bommasandra, said Palike's Major Works Standing Committee Chairman H Ravindra.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the spot on Saturday, Ravindra said a two-km stretch between BEL Road and Nanjappa Circle will be widened up to 60 ft from the existing 30 ft. Similarly, the road from Kodigehalli Circle connecting Ring Road measuring 1.3 km would also be made a 60 ft road.

The Palike would spend Rs 12 crore on these two projects. Ravindra said there are only a few private properties on these two roads with most of the land belonging to government and BEL. Ravindra said notification for the acquisition of land would be issued shortly.
