SWR celebrates 100 years of 'Girl Guides'

More than 192 take part in three-day meet

More than 192 girl guides from eight railway zones are participating in the programme, which was inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway(SWR), B B Verma.

Speaking on the occasion, Verma said that the girl guides are present in more than 144 countries. Furthermore, he said that the guides movement groom men and women better with its values and discipline, helping them become better citizens in the country.

The first day of the programme included fancy dress competition and folk dance festival. The girl guides will participate in guiders forum, Ikebana and handicraft exhibition, drawing and poster making competitions on December 22. The third and final day will witness guides participating in an all faith prayer, mehandi decoration, salad decoration, rangoli competition. Prizes will be distributed on December 23 at 6.30 pm.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Goutam Majumdar, District Commissioner P T Benny were present.

History

The ‘Girl Guides’ was founded in United Kingdom in 1910 by Robert Baden Powell with the assistance of his sister Agnes Baden Powell. Girl guides are present in more than 144 countries.
