And the easiest way is hosting baadoota, meaning a spread of non-vegetarian food.
Baadoota or muttonoota is quite popular in the old Mysore region. People are served mutton and chicken delicacies. With just three days left for the election campaign to end, hosting such food feasts has become common of late, especially in Ramanagar district.
For instance, residents of Chikkakalya village coming under the Thippasandra ZP constituency, Ramanagar district, enjoyed a grand feast on Tuesday. Courtesy: B Anne Gowda, the BJP candidate.

About 200 people of the village were served mutton, chicken, ragi mudde, white rice, sambar, rasam and butter milk at a farmhouse in the village.

Interestingly, BJP State president K S Eshwarappa, Labour minister B N Bache Gowda (who is also the Ramanagar district in-charge minister) and Malleswaram MLA Ashwathnarayan were present at the venue where baadoota was served. Organising baadoota amounts to violation of the model code of conduct as it amounts to luring the voters.

After addressing people as part of his election campaign, Eshwarappa requested the villagers to have baadoota before dispersing. The farmhouse belongs to a close relative of Ashwathnarayan.

It is said baadootas are hosted across the district by all political parties. While food camps, even if it they are held at farmhouses become public, what is ‘given’ to lure voters usually remains a secret.

Campaign

Eshwarappa went on a whirlwind campaign in Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district, considered a strong JD(S) bastion.

Except for two places –– Chikkakalya village and Kudur —– the BJP leader did not meet local residents in any village. It was a brief stopover in each village and then leave a quick exit after shaking hands with party workers. Addressing people at Kudur, a Zilla Panchayat constituency, he claimed his party will sweep all the seats in Ramanagar district in both ZP and TP elections. People belonging to all castes and communities are with the BJP now.
