<p>The child was born with a rare heart defect in which one of the lower chambers of the heart was divided into two parts by a muscular and fibrous band obstructing the flow of blood to the lungs.</p>.<p>The obstruction resulted in the enlargement causing severe breathlessness and repeated cough, affecting the growth of the child.<br /><br />The diagnosis was made by Omega Hospital Chief Cardiologist Dr K Mukund and the cardiac surgery team was lead by Dr A G Jayakrishnan, Dr Anand K T and Cardiac Anesthetist Dr Chetana Anand.</p>.<p>The operation lasted for 3 hours and was done with the help of heart lung machine after stopping the heart. This is first time in the region that such an operation has been performed, states a release.<br /></p>
