Teacher rapes orphan student

The incident came to light only on Tuesday after the girl became pregnant and was taken to a doctor by the teacher for abortion.  The doctor refused to abort the foetus and in turn alerted child rights activists of Mahila Samakhya.

The physical education teacher Suresh Goud gave the slip to the police who visited the school on Tuesday. The girl hailing from B K Guda of Balkampet was admitted to the orphanage at Musheerabad after her parents died two years ago. She was studying in the Bhoiguda Government School since then.

Orphanage officials had earlier filed a complaint with the Hyderabad District Education Officer on the suspicious behaviour of the teacher.

An official inquiry found Goud had violated the ethical code of teachers by luring the girl offering books and money. He was let off with a warning.

Pretending to pity the orphan girl, Goud, a married person with three children, used to frequently pick up the victim from the orphanage and drop her at school.

“He used to take the pretext of training the girl for dropping her late at the orphanage and had sex with her,” said a police after interrogating the girl. The orphanage shifted her to another school on November 2.

The police sent the minor girl for medical examination. A rape case under Section IPC 376 (Rape) against the teacher was booked and a manhunt launched, said S Sudhakar, inspector of Gandhinagar police station.

The school authorities have suspended the teacher after the case was registered against him. But it appeared that they and other teachers were aware of the issue but kept it under wraps to avoid a scandal in the school, said District Education Officer P Sushinder Rao.

He has released a circular to all schools forbidding male teachers interacting with girl students after class hours.
