According to Vice -Chancellor N Prabhu Dev, 58 per cent PG students hail from poor families and the decision is to support them so that they do not drop out due to financial reasons. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Finance Committee on Wednesday.
The scholarship will be given for ten months. For this, Rs 1.18 crore per year or Rs 11.80 per month would be required. The Committee also decided to pay Rs 3.4 crore as UGC arrears from December 24 2009 to March 2010 to teachers. The amount will be paid in three months.
