Hopcoms slashes vegetable prices

Last Updated 23 December 2010, 09:12 IST

Coming to the rescue of consumers, Hopcoms on Thursday slashed the price of onions from Rs 70 per kg to Rs 55.

The move comes after the government directed Hopcoms to reduce the price of vegetables. The price of carrot was brought down to Rs 58 per kg from Rs 62.  Garlic now costs Rs 210 per kg, compared to the earlier price of Rs. 240.

The state government had on Tuesday asked Hopcoms to be the nodal agency to procure onion from outside Karnataka and make it available at a reasonable rate.
