As part of its Platinum Jubilee year celebrations, Rotary Club of Bangalore, in partnership with Menda Education Trust, a philanthropic NGO, has organised a fundraising event - a dance performance by Rukmini Vijayakumar - at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on May 9.

The event is being held to help raise funds for the Rotary Menda Education Foundation that provides scholarships to underprivileged children. Applications will be invited from schools to recommend eligible students for these scholarships.

Rtn Vijayakumar, President Rotary Club of Bangalore said that a screening committee will shortlist the candidates for the scholarships.  “The event is expected to add another Rs 6 to 8 lakh to the corpus that will help expand the scholarship to as many as 75 students at Rs 6,000 each, to meet fees and related expenses. The Foundation hopes to expand until we can provide 250 such scholarships to needy students,” he said.  From a small beginning, the Foundation has now over Rs 40 lakh and the interest accrued, and supported 55 children with scholarships of Rs 5,000 each, last year.

Rukmini Vijayakumar will present ‘Megham’, a thematic presentation of the panorama of monsoon. Donor passes are available at Rs 400. Contact: 2212 0317.
