After all, Christmas and New Year parties consist of the most fashionable crowd! As the young ladies of the City experiment with skirts, gowns, short dresses and evening wear this December, they speak about how to strike the best style statement.

Diya Jojan, a second PUC student of Christ University, makes it a point to wear the most beautiful dresses during Christmas and New Year.

“Since the colours of Christmas are green and red, I plan to wear a red dress with red pump shoes and a black belt this season,” she adds.

Diya generally celebrates Christmas in her native place Kerala. “So my cousins and I end up wearing the similar dresses,” she smiles.

“But this year, I am planning to throw a house party so I am really looking forward to that.” Ask her for a fashion tip and she says, “Wear a dress with a nice high-waisted belt and a hair band. Carry a suitable clutch and you will be ready to rock!”

Anna Mathews, an architecture student of BMS College of Engineering, loves wearing skirts during this season.

“A skirt is a welcome change from the jeans and salwars one generally wears throughout the year,” she says.

According to her, skirts made of netted fabrics and crochet work are completely in. “Team them up with a nice top and high heels,” she advises.

“Scarves and stoles go great with skirts too and keep you warm during the winter season.” Anna prefers custom-made skirts. “You never get the right cut with ready-made skirts,” she feels. “Also, wear a red Santa hat to suit the occasion,” she smiles.

Amanda Bachalli, a Bangalore-based designer, offers some tips when it comes to dressing up for the party season. “Since many parties are happening in town during this season, go for some bling. Party dresses, especially the long ones, are in vogue. Go for full-length dresses with a lot of construction details like pleats and crystals. They look really glamourous,” she advises. “Tops and skirts are a great option too. Team tops up with well-fitting trousers and pants.”

Amanda feels accessories should be worn according to the neckline of the dress. “Choker  and pearl necklaces are in. Wear big earrings and bracelets and match them up with handbags and small clutches,” she notes.

When it comes to shoes, one surely has to go for high heels, she feels.
“Stockings are extremely in since the weather is chilly. Buy a good pair of woollen stockings but don’t go for the usual black ones. Opt for some bright and colourful stockings and mix and match them with your personal style.”
