Baking in the X'mas spirit

The aroma of a freshly baked cakes surrounding the air makes a person involuntarily inhale in an effort to arrest the pleasant smell within. December is a bad time to go dieting. For, it is difficult to resist the temptation of mouth-watering pastries that are kept on display at most of the bakeries during the season.

It has almost become a tradition with everybody cutting across the religious barriers to celebrate the festival of Christmas or the New Year, which is just a few days away, with a piece of cake. Most of the bakeries are busy during the month of December to complete the orders and even hire chefs for the season.

The city is also hosting the cake exhibitions at various points and one such has been arranged at Gruha Shobhe by ‘Dolphins’, with its several outlets in city.  A huge replica of Hotel Lalita Mahal has been created by using 250 kg icing sugar, which attracts onlookers.

Speaking to City Herald, Firoz, proprietor of Dolphins said the model took almost one week with three masters on the job. Tier cake that is more than six feet tall is also on display. One of the prestigious mart of the city has also placed an order for an 8 ft wide, 5 ft tall tier cake,  weighing 45 kg.

There is also a demonstration of cakes every day at the expo between 5 pm and 9 pm. Apart from this there are also a wide range of fresh cream pastries and butter cream. The bakers also cater for those who prefer to have cakes without the addition of eggs with a little higher price, he added.

Gruha Shobhe is also a point where you get a wide range of household equipment under one roof with several companies offering them with zero percent interest and low EMI.
A replica of Taj Mahal, a symbol of love, made by Lal and Team of Aroma bakeries decorate the entrance of the Loyal World in V V Mohalla as part of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Speaking to City Herald, Manager Shakeel said that the bakery section gears up well in advance and the chefs also plan new designs to attract the customers.

The replica of Taj Mahal approximately 3 ft width and 4 ft tall has been prepared by using 200 kgs of icing sugar.

The lovely Barbie doll, a flower pot made of walnuts, flower baskets, thatched huts, angel fish you name it and it is available here. It becomes difficult for the customers to choose from more than 150 varieties of cakes available as the younger ones nudging the parents to go for a comic figure. There is also a huge demand for plum cakes during the season, he adds.  

Chaitra of Allure Boutique is helping many women entreprenuers sell homemade cakes, cookies, pastries, jams and wines. This is is being held for the fourth consecutive year at her boutique in Kuvempunagar.

The response of the people, who prefer these home made items is so encouraging and the products sells like hot cakes, she told City Herald.

Five women are displaying their products here, which will be open from December 23 to 25.
