The facility of the videoconferencing system would be introduced at Meerut, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad and Mirzapur prisons in the state by March 2011, State DGP (Jails) V K Gupta told reporters here yesterday.
This will enable the practice of making the accused available to courts for trials from the jail premises itself, he said.
Gupta said apart from videoconferencing facility, the jails would also have CCTV cameras to monitor the inmates and activities of the jail staff and metal detectors and X-ray scanners for the visitors to thwart any sabotage attempt.
The kitchen of the jails would be modernised by introducing new machines, he added.
