Scrap explosion: Death toll hits five

Nayaz (39) of Ghousianagar is the deceased. He along with six others had suffered burns in the mishap and had been undergoing treatment at K R Hospital. With Nayaz’s death, the toll in the case has risen to five. N R Police who are investigating the case have intensified their search for the scrap yard owner who is at large.

Four had been charred to death in the incident that day, leaving seven injured.

Kidnap case: Van traced
Jayalakshmipuram Police claim to have traced the maruti van used by the gang that allegedly tried to kidnap hotelier Rohan Guptha, on Monday night.
The red coloured van (KA 02 N 0212) was found abandoned at Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) colony in Vijayanagar. The van bears the registration number of Bangalore, written in Kannada alphabets.

The number plate also bears the name of a pro-Kannada outfit. Cops had to summon a crane to haul the vehicle to the station. Rohan was returning home on Sunday night when a gang of six allegedly tried to kidnap him. They also opened several rounds of fire in their bid to threaten him.

Undeterred Rohan ran for life, while the assailants fled with his car only to abandon it in Hebbal Industrial Area following day. The gang had been waiting for Rohan, in the same van, at that spot, said a cop quoting the statement of Rohan.

Gambling: Eight held
Eight persons were arrested on charges of gambling on the outskirts on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Raju, Narayan, Anil, Chandan, Chetan, Nagaraj, Jamaal and Ramsingh, residents of the city.

They had been engrossed in ‘andar baahar’ a card game at the farm house of Natesh at Ganigarahundi, when the cops attached to Mysore South police station swooped on them in the evening hours. In all ` 26,300 in cash kept on stake was recovered.
The police team consisted of CPI Gopalakrishna, SI Jagadish among others.
