While the hike is also applicable to the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) and North-East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC), a release on Tuesday said it will not be implemented across the board. Only a few services/sectors will have the new ticket fares, whereas ordinary tickets have been entirely spared.
According to the release, the hike has been attributed to the increase in high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 2.20 on July 2. The KSRTC said the increase in HSD prices would increase its operational expenses by Rs 39.18 crore per annum, making the hike inevitable to off-set the financial burden.
Keeping the conditions of ordinary people in mind, fares of ordinary bus services by the KSRTC have been left unchanged. However, Express, Rajahamsa (Deluxe), Volvo (Airavata) and Meghadoot will charge 3.56 per cent more. The KSRTC last effected hike in August 2008, subsequently bringing prices down by 3.1 per cent in February 2009. The fluctuation is more in line with the price of diesel.
