The officer, Inspector Arun Borude, was on the run from the police after he was accused in the rape of a 15-year-old girl hailing from Powai in north-west Mumbai.
Borude’s suicide comes a few days after an Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) shot himself dead inside Dahisar police station in north Mumbai after getting entangled in an extra-marital relationship.
Borude's smashed body was found in the afternoon just next to the railway tracks at Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district, the state police control said here.
According to the first information report (FIR), the girl was raped on several occasions by the accused persons, including Borude, between February and March 2010 in an apartment at Powai, adjacent to Borude's residence.
Along with Borude, four others were also booked for the crime that had sent shockwaves across Mumbai.
