'No mid-day meals, because no cylinders'

Last Updated 30 December 2010, 16:37 IST

School Development Committee President Hareesh said that the school was not supplied with gas cylinders since few months. An agency which has been shouldered with the responsibility of supplying cylinder gas to all the schools has not turned up at Byadagere school, informs Hareesh.

With the shortage of cooking gas, now the situation has arose for localites to toil and collect the fire wood for cooking purpose. But then collecting fire wood in this season is also impossible as plucking work of coffee beans has started in the region.

Owing to the inconveniences, the teachers have directed the students to carry tiffin box along with them. As most of the parents are daily wage labourers, it has been impossible for them to cook lunch and give their children. So most of the children are fasting in the noon and fighting against the hunger.

The school is in a deteriorating condition and it may collapse at any moment. The number of teachers who were supposed to work in the school has gone down to 2 from 5. The number of children studying earlier was 165 which has now reduced to 65.
