The new kit could be used in microbiology department of all medical and veterinary college and institutions, diagnostic, medical and veterinary laboratory, analytical and quality control food laboratories, CFL’s of armed forces, food export inspection agencies and disease control investigation institution and peripheral units.

The kit helps simultaneous detection of foru different groups of pathogenic microorganisms. - Salmonella, Shigellla, Escherichia coli and Proteus. The convention methodology to identify these microorganisms are based on isolation in pure cultures, biochemical and serological tests.

These tests are tedious and time consuming, need three to five days to achieve the results. Moreover, these procedures are not economical.

The kit detects Salmonella genus, Shigella genus, entire E-coli group along with Proteus Vulgaris/mirabilis at the same time, employing monoclonal antibody based simple dot ELISA and a set of four biochemical tests which are reliable, simple to perform, take only three hours to produce results and relatively expensive. The new kit has been developed and tested at DFRL, with number of reference strains, isolates and clinical samples.
DFRL also carried out a third party evaluation of the kit and has been carried out successfully at JSS Medical College, SDM college, Dharwad and Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.
