Sankranthi ushers in poetic mood

The Sankranthi has ushered in good tidings for the poets in city. The first festival of New Year brought to the fore budding talents in poetry at the ‘Sankranthi Kavigoshti ‘ ( poets’ meet) organised by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) here on Saturday.

As part of their annual affair the KSP district unit hosted to more than 40 poets from city and other districts from state at its premises near the Palace.

The poets brought different genres of writings from various places and enthralled the listeners with their wit and humour. The gathering busts into laughter, as the poems were in lighter vein.

A budding poet from Chitradurga Murugarajendra mutt Raveesha highlighted the plastic menace through his four-line poem.

Another poet Rachappaji explained in a humorous way the love for English in houses of few Kannada activists. In bad usage, they spoil the English along with Kannada, he ridiculed.

Earlier, Writer Malali Vasanthkumar inaugurated the  the poets meet and said any writing should go with intellectual thought, culture and science.

All the three go together to form a good piece of writing. Anything lacking among the three would affect the quality of the writing, he said.

He asked the writers to focus on novelty saying that writers can write on varied things as different as the each and every leaves of plants and trees in the nature.

Maddikere Gopal, district president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mysore Palace Board Deputy Director P V Awaradhi  and others were present on the occasion.
