'Change in C&R rules for physical education teachers soon'

Yoga will be made compulsory in schools

Speaking after inaugurating a programme to felicitate State and national-level athletes of Dakshina Kannada, organised jointly by Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instruction and District Physical Education Teachers Association here on Saturday, he said “the draft is being discussed at the Secretary level. Government will provide service security to the physical education teachers.” He also assured that government will take measures to implement Vaidyanathan Committee report with regard to physical education teachers.

“The government will provide priority to physical education. Yoga will be made compulsory. Text book on physical education is getting printed in the State,” he added.
Kageri said there is shortage of physical education teachers when compared to the number of schools in the State. However, the condition of physical education teachers in PUC is very bad. There are only 20 physical education teachers in junior colleges in the State. We will take measures to recruit the teachers as well as to strengthen PU Board.”
“Talented youths are ‘property’ of the country. Education department has a responsibility of identifying the hidden talents among kids and nurturing their talent. There is a need to bring in changes to the education system.

When the pathetic condition of the Muslim Residential School in Deralakatte was brought to the notice of the Minister, he said that he would urge the district administration and department concerned to initiate action. “We will initiate action against the in-charge of the school,” he said.

“The cash award distributed to athletes, who bagged national awards, has been increased. Athletes who bag Gold Medal in a national-level event will be awarded with Rs 1 lakh, while Silver Medal winner will be given Rs 50,000 and the holder of Bronze Medal will receive Rs 25,000,” said State NRI Cell vice-chairman and MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, State Physical Education Teachers Association President Venkatesh urged the government to implement Vaidyanathan Committee report. He said physical education teachers are considered as special teachers. The word special teachers should be removed. They must be considered as Assistant Teachers. The facilities enjoyed by the teachers should be extended to physical education teachers.

He urged the government to bring out a physical education policy.
As many as 23 national-level athletes and 145 State-level athletes were honoured with cash prizes and citation on the occasion. Zilla Panchayat former president Sucharitha Shetty, Sridevi Education Trust Chairman Sadananda Shetty and coach Dinesh Kunder were felicitated on the occasion.

Zilla Panchayat in-charge president Venkat Dambekodi, DDPI Chame Gowda, MLA U T Khader and others were present.
