ZPs to elect chiefs between Jan 28 - Feb 17

The elections will be held on various days between January 28 and February 17. Gadag ZP elected its presiding officers on Thursday. The Bangalore (Urban) ZP will elect its presiding officer on February 15.

The ZPs will effectively start functioning once the process of electing the presiding officers is complete.

Of the total 30 ZPs in the State, the BJP had won 12 while the Opposition Congress and the JD(S) had bagged four ZPs each. In the remaining 10 ZPs with hung verdicts, the BJP has gained majority in three - including Bellary and Gulbarga - through defections.

Following is the schedule: Belgaum Division: Haveri ZP (  January 28); Uttara Kannada ZP (Jan 29); Dharwad (Jan 31); Belgaum (Feb 1); Bijapur (Feb 2); Bagalkot (Feb 3).

 Bangalore Division: Tumkur ZP (Feb 5); Chikkaballapur (Feb 7); Kolar (Feb 8); Chitradurga (Feb 9); Shimoga (Feb 10); Davangere (Feb 11); Bangalore Rural (Feb 14); Bangalore Urban (Feb 15); Ramanagara (Feb 17).

Gulbarga Division: Raichur (Feb 1); Bellary (Jan 29); Koppal (Jan 31); Yadgir (Feb 2); Gulbarga (Feb 3); Bidar (Feb 5).

Mysore Division: Kodagu (Feb 2); Dakshina Kannada (Feb 8); Udupi (Feb 9); Chikmagalur (Feb 10); Mysore (Feb 11); Chamarajnagar (Feb 14); Mandya (Feb 15); Hassan (Feb 17).
