Pune based bogus UN official arrested

Dinesh Arne (33), a resident of Kondva locality of Pune was held on Sunday on a complaint lodged by Principal of local Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Social Works College Avinash Shirke, after registering a criminal offence under section 420 of IPC, they said.

The accused claimed to be a Classification Officer of the United Nations Organization, Geneva and also claimed to have passed the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) besides holding two Post Graduate degrees and a doctorate.

Arne was in the city since January 26 and he conducted two lecture sessions, one at Phule College and the other at the Govt Medical College on January 27 and 28 respectively.

"We have searched google to trace the antecedents of the so called UN officer but in vain," a police officer said adding Dinesh is a cheat and is indulging in the crime since 2000.

We are going to Pune to find out his whereabouts and other involvement and links, he said. Shirke had invited Dinesh to Yavatmal for conducting a lecture series for his students other colleges but doubted the UN official and his references, following which he accordingly verified it on Google and Facebook, to find out that he was a cheat.

The Principal was introduced to Dinesh by one Sanjeevani Gohar attached to the Govt Sasoon Medical College of Pune, where Shirke completed his education.
