Observing that there are 4,348 blocks in the district, Gupta said that 3,818 enumerators, 638 supervisors and 15 in-charge officers have been appointed to undertake the census in the district.

He said that instructions have been passed on to nodal officers to submit census reports to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at regular intervals.

Supervisors have to verify 10 per cent of the records taken by enumerators and each in-charge officer has to check one-per cent of the data collected, he added.

29 questions

The census enumerators will ask 29 questions for each person. The drive for shelterless will be taken up on February 28 between 7 pm and midnight in the district.  The marital status of women would also be taken into account.

Details of infants who are born on or before March 1 will be collected. A special drive to delete the names of deceased will be held during the census.

While 74 masters trainers have undergone training, the enumerators have also been briefed about their role in the collection of data.

Taluk Tahsildars and Town Panchayat CEO’s will be the in-charge officers and responsible for the collection of all data.  The information collected during the census will be later used to effectively implement schemes that are provided by the government.

Also pulse polio campaigns, distribution of BPL cards and others schemes can be held in a better manner, he added. Zilla Panchayat CEO G Sathyavati and Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr C J Betsurmath were present.

Seventh census

This is the seventh population census after independence. The first population census of the country was conducted in 1872 and since then the census is being held once in every 10 years.

Census plays a major role in planning and implementing the development works for the country.  The population census of 2011 is being held in two phases. As part of the first phase, lists of the existing houses and the important details of the families have already been collected.

The details will be processed in the second phase of census to be held now.  Under the population census project the list of houses would be verified and also take into account the newly constructed buildings and the houses that are being used for other purposes.

Details

The enumerators will also collect details on the SC/ST, physically challenged, mentally challenged, working, jobless, educated, uneducated, educational qualifications and also the details of those who had migrated to other places in search of jobs.

A meeting of the district level nodal officers, and officials concerned has already been held.  The authorities concerned have appealed to people to extend cooperation to the enumerators who visit their homes for details.
