Fast and furious four arrested

Finally, it was an LPG tanker and a few police vehicles blocking the road that brought the car to a halt near Nanjangud. The four passengers are now cooling their heels in a police station.Yemen national Abdul Mallik, zipping at 120 kmph, smashed through barricades erected by the police near Srirangapatna around 2.30 am on Monday.

Sub-Inspector M K Jagadeesh and team who were on night beat followed the car but were unable to stop it. The team immediately informed the Mysore control room about the dangerously speeding car heading from Bangalore towards the city.

The police erected barricades at several locations, including K R Mills near St Philomena’s Church and Gun House. However, the driver threw caution to the winds and manoeuvred the car at such speed that it injured police constable Nagendra.

According to police sources, a drunk Mallik was accompanied by fellow citizen Mohammed Ali and two Manipuri girls, Ramatang and Stia. Mallik and Ali are said to be pursuing M Tech at AMC College, Bangalore. The Manipuri girls are purportedly running a beauty parlour at Kammanahalli in the State capital. The four were taken for medical examination. Mallik sustained injuries after his head hit the steering wheel. The car has been seized and a case registered at Lakshmipuram Police Station.
