Residents allege disparity in water supply

Last Updated 07 February 2011, 19:21 IST

The residents of 7th cross Saraswathipuram in Mahalakshmipuram Ward have been receiving water for just around 20 mins every alternate day for the past three years.

"I am fed up of complaining to all the BWSSB officials; they do not pay heed to our problems. In a day we hardly get water for 15-20 minutes. There is no fixed timing even for this supply," says B Venkatarama Reddy.

Though the residents have repeatedly complained about the poor water supply, they have  received only empty promises from the BWSSB engineer concerned.

"We receive  very little water in our area and the force is also poor. But down the road near Geleyara Balaga, ample water is supplied. Why is there so much disparity, asked Shankarappa, another resident.

Three borewells

There are nearly 500 houses in and around the 7th cross Saraswathipuram which are facing this problem.

Area corporator S Keshava Reddy admitted there was water crisis in the area.
'There is  a shortage of water supply and I have tried to compensate it by sinking three borewells," he said.

Reservoir dried up

A BWSSB official said that since the Tippagondanahalli reservoir had dried up, they do not receive enough supply in Mahalakshmipuram for distribution.

"I am aware of the problems faced by the Saraswathipuram residents. As the water valves are malfunctioning, we are in the process of replacing.  Once the work is completed, residents of  7th cross should also be able to receive sufficient water," added the official.
