Teachers who have been involved in population enumeration have to utilise half-a-day for enumeration exercise.

Addressing mediapersons on Tuesday in the City he said “Exams for classes I to VII standard have been scheduled for February and March. However, teachers will be in the field collecting data from February 7 to 20. Conducting census data as well as holding classes will prove very difficult for teachers. But it is inevitable.”

The minister added that the Centre had worked out a time-table for the Census. Census operations require teachers as they are present in every village. Conducting census will be difficult without involving them.

He also appealed to former minister Basavaraj Horatti to withdraw the protest immediately, which he had launched in Hubli seeking fulfillment of various demands concerning the teachers’ community. The State government will take appropriate decision regarding teachers’ demands, he assured.

At Banavasi

The minister opposed the resolution passed in the 77th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, which concluded in Bangalore recently, to hold Pampa award presentation ceremony at Annigeri in Dharwad instead of Banavasi in Uttara Kannada district.

Kageri who hails from Uttara Kannada said since 1986 Pampa award was presented as part of Kadambotsava held in Banavasi. The government should continue to hold the ceremony in Banavasi alone.

“Annigeri in Dharwad may be Pampa’s birthplace. But Banavasi, the place where he lived, recurs in his poetry,” he said.
