The shops were selling plastic items, clothes, sweets, besides copper and brass items. The incident occurred after gas leaked from the cylinder in the shop belonging to Bomma on Sunday night. This resulted in a fire that spread to the shops on either side of the road.
Personnel of the fire and emergency services at Hanur soon arrived at the spot and doused the fire, preventing a bigger disaster.
R Dhruvanarayana, MP and R Narendra, MLA, visited the spot on Monday and promised to get necessary aid from the government for the affected.
